Beautiful pics, but what's with the brown water??

The explanation I got was that it rains so much in parts of the South Island the plants are constantly inundated, and tannins from the plants leach into the water, turning it brown.
Think of all the plants on the ground as a very large tea-bag, and the stream as a poorly contained cup of tea. Or something.
